“There are 2 great days in a person’s life – the day we are born and the day we discover why.” – William Barclay

Surprises.  What do you think of when you think of the word surprises?  Me, I think of excitement, anticipation, sometimes even a little fear of not knowing what to expect. Surprises always have a tendency to show up when you least expect them. Surprises are what life is made up of and learning from those surprises is what makes us extraordinary.

The last few years of my life have been full of surprises, some good and some not so good.  A few years ago, when my ex-husband and I first separated I thought my world was coming down around me.  I felt I had lost everything.  I was a 28-year-old, stay-at-home mom who was now being forced to change her whole life around.  At the time, I wasn’t so open to surprises and was not very welcoming to all these changes.  I kept resisting, holding onto what I had wanted my life to be.  And because I kept resisting and holding onto the past I could not move forward.

Although my ex was still a big part of my son’s life, I had to start making life changes and start thinking of a new future for my son and I.  I got back into doing massage therapy after having been a pre-school teacher for some time. Massage therapy was always a passion of mine because being able to help people feel better was always rewarding for me.  During this time, life surprised me again.  An uncle of mine who I loved dearly passed away, leaving behind a wife and two young children.  He had many health complications because he was very overweight and that is what ultimately led him to his death.  This really hit home for me since weight has always been big problem in our family for as long as I can remember.  For my uncle, it had been a very serious problem, and no matter how much he wanted to do something about it, he just couldn’t.  It seemed like the harder he tried the more he failed.  I began to look at myself and my own struggles with weight and that is when I decided that I wanted to help people going through similar struggles.

Soon life surprised me once again, only this time it was a very welcoming surprise.  One morning, I was talking to my ex about wanting to go back to school but I was unsure for what, I just knew that I wanted to help people with body image and self esteem issues.  Later that afternoon, I had a massage client come in and she began to tell me about her job as a life coach, I got goose bumps and I knew right away this was my calling.  So without much thought I signed up for the IPEC program.  It was the most amazing and life changing event of my life.  I signed up with the intentions of learning to be able to help others and to my surprise I learned a lot more than I ever expected.  As my views on myself began to change, the whole world around me began changing too. I had begun to experience feelings I had never felt before: confidence and self-love. This is when I began to feel like I could really accomplish anything I put my mind to and I then decided I wanted to start my own business.

I am currently in the process of launching my company A Meaningful You, where my goal is to help you achieve success in getting your ideal body by creating balance from the inside out and helping you create a more meaningful and fulfilling life in the process.  Never in a million years would I have ever considered starting my own business, but life had another plan for me.  All of life’s little surprises led me to where I am today.  When you have a calling follow it, life will start opening paths for you everywhere, when you pay attention and you believe you can.  Life is about taking chances, and accepting all those little surprises life throws at you.  There is ALWAYS something to be learned in everything whether the surprise was good or bad.  It’s what we do with those surprises that makes us stand out.

My advice to you for a successful and fulfilling life:

  • Surround yourself with great people, things, music TV shows that will make you feel    extraordinary and motivated
  • Be grateful for all the amazing surprises and things life has put in front of you
  • Always believe and love yourself, no one will every love you or believe in you as much as you can
  • Always keep your eyes out for those little surprises life throws at you, and don’t be afraid of them, they can lead you to amazing things
  • Have faith that you are exactly where you should be
  • Step out of your comfort zone, I promise you won’t regret it
