“When you’re interested, you do what’s convenient. When you’re committed, you do whatever it takes.” Dr. Melissa Brown, Greenlight Coaching
When I announced the launch of my new site on Twitter, Diana Antholis, a stellar Career and Work/Life Consultant for Performance Advantage Inc, and blogger over at Enter: Adulthood tweeted: I don’t know how YOU do it all! 🙂 Or me. Or anyone! My reply was: It’s better not to think about how we do it all or we’d scare ourselves.
But I do get asked this question a lot! “ChaChanna, how do you do it all?” And, I’m sure you get asked the same thing. How do you answer that question? I usually laugh it off and don’t put much thought into it. But now that I’m really thinking about it, I’ve decided that I really don’t see it as doing “so much.” To me, I’m just doing what I do when I do what I do. I love coaching, speaking, networking, writing, brainstorming, all of that. It’s just a part of me.
And, that is what makes you and me stand out from those who are “going to start a business one day.” (Quotation marks because they’ve been saying this since 1978 and haven’t done anything but create excuses as to why it’s just not the right time to start a business right now. We know better.) We brave soldiers took the risk by just getting started somewhere. Instead of focusing on what we’re going to lose by undertaking both a full time job and running a business (hours to be bored doing nothing) we focus on how much we’ll gain (hours and money to be bored and do whatever we want), how much fun it’ll be (some people just love a challenge) and the many people we will help (Yay, for helping people!).
We’ve made the decision to make a difference in our part of the world and create a better lifestyle for ourselves. And because we made that decision, we make time to get done what needs to get done, without excuses.
Matt Cheuvront who blogs over at Life Without Pants makes my point fantastically in his post No Time? Make Time?
If you keep telling yourself you don’t have the time, you’ll never make the time. You do have the time, if you make time.
You may have been looking for some secret silver bullet, but I got nada on that. My secret, which is now your secret, is that I am completely determined and focused. I make time to get the important things done. No amount of to-do list or time management tricks will do a bit of difference if you are not first committed to what you want.
I’d love to know how you get so much done?
